Along the coast of Hvar, Croatia, Zaraće Beach (Plaža Malo Zaraće) is a gorgeous cove with idyllic swimming. This off-the-beaten-path cove has crystal clear aquamarine water against a stunning rocky landscape, perfect for a refreshing summer dip. While it may lack the services of nearby beaches, Zaraće Beach more than makes up for it with its serene beauty and tranquility. Be sure to arrive early to beat the crowds, and keep an eye out for the elusive left-hand turn if you’re coming from Stari Grad.
To Get There
- Plaža Malo Zaraće, Zaraće, Hrvaška, Zadar, Croatia
- Taking a car here is challenging. If you decide to do so, park high up along the main highway and walk down to the Cove.
- We rented scooters and took them down a steep road to park them closer to the coastline
- There are no bars or restaurants here, it’s very secluded. Bring water and snacks with you.
Tip: Wear water shoes, the beach is rocky and there are sea urchins you could potentially step on. Ouch!

When To Go
The best time to visit Hvar is during late spring (May and June) or early autumn (September and October) when the weather is pleasantly warm and the tourist crowds are thinner. These months have ideal conditions for enjoying the island’s beaches, historic sites, and vibrant nightlife.

About Zaraće Beach
This secluded beach is renowned for its crystal-clear aquamarine waters and rugged rocky landscape, making it a perfect spot for swimming, snorkeling, and sunbathing. Since it’s harder to get to and not developed, Malo Zaraće has tranquil and unspoiled natural environment, so you can fully immerse yourself in the beauty of the Adriatic coast.
The beach itself has minimal facilities, so you should come prepared with your own food, water, and beach essentials. The rocky terrain and clear waters are great for snorkeling.
