When To Go
The best time to visit the World Famous Crochet Museum in Joshua Tree is during spring (March–May) or fall (October–November), when temperatures are mild and perfect for exploring the desert. Avoid summer if possible, as the extreme heat can make outdoor activities less enjoyable.
Note: Shari doesn’t actually make these crocheted creations but is a collector of them.
The World Famous Crochet Museum
The museum is the brainchild of Shari Elf, a local artist whose talent and humor infuse every corner of this playful space. Inside, you’ll find an eclectic collection of crocheted wonders—everything from miniature animals and colorful food replicas to unexpected items like crocheted toilet paper rolls. It’s a place where craft and creativity collide, bringing smiles to anyone who steps inside.

Beyond the museum itself, Shari’s adjacent shop is a treasure trove of screen-printed clothing, patches, and other handmade art. Browsing the racks feels like uncovering hidden gems, each piece brimming with personality. On my visit, I couldn’t resist snagging a shirt emblazoned with the words, “What would Cher do?”—a reminder to channel a little diva energy when needed!

The Crochet Museum is about the experience. It’s a spot to snap fun photos, share a laugh over Shari’s witty designs, and embrace the lighthearted side of life. The museum offers a dose of joy that’s hard to find anywhere else.

If you find yourself in Joshua Tree, don’t miss this fun and funky destination—it’s a tiny green beacon of creativity in the middle of the Mojave. And who knows? You might walk away with a “What would Cher do?” shirt of your own!
