Getting to Tenaya Lodge is part of the adventure. If you’re coming from Los Angeles, it’s about a 5.5-hour drive, while those traveling from San Francisco can expect a journey of roughly 4 hours. As you approach the area, the scenery transitions into lush forests and winding mountain roads, setting the tone for your Yosemite experience. We visited in the fall and loved the peaceful atmosphere and mild weather, ideal for hiking and stargazing.
About Tenaya Lodge
Tenaya Lodge perfectly blends rustic charm with modern comfort. The lodge features grand fireplaces, warm neutral tones, and a touch of taxidermy that gives it an authentic mountain feel. Whether you’re traveling solo, as a couple, or with family, you’ll find plenty of communal spaces to relax, including an inviting reading nook in the main lobby and both indoor and outdoor pools.
We stayed in one of the lodge’s cabins, which was cute and comfortable without being overly fancy. The highlight was the indoor fireplace—there’s nothing quite like unwinding by a crackling fire after an active day. The cabin was quiet at night, and with no light pollution, the starry skies were absolutely mesmerizing.
For outdoor relaxation, the lodge offers large fire pits where guests can gather for drinks and conversation. One of our favorite moments was sipping wine by the fire and recounting our day’s adventures.
Tenaya Lodge has four on-site restaurants to suit a variety of tastes. After a long day of hiking, you can choose between cozy indoor dining with a cabin vibe or a casual outdoor BBQ. The restaurants are convenient and provide plenty of options, so you won’t have to leave the property to find a satisfying meal.

Unlike many hotels located far outside the park, Tenaya is just a 30-minute drive from the Valley, where most of Yosemite’s iconic activities begin. This makes it easy to maximize your time exploring granite giants like El Capitan and Half Dome, as well as the park’s stunning waterfalls and meadows.
