Off-roading in Sedona is truly and amazing experience. Next time you visit Sedona, take an exhilarating UTV ride through Coconino National Forest. We rented from Sedona ATV, and riding as a pair made it easier to navigate over having our own UTVs, but both options are super fun! The route we decided to take took us to the Palatki Heritage Site to see ancient cliff dwelling and art sites, then to Boynton Canyon through the scenic red rocks.
ATV Rental Info
If you prefer to do a guided tour this one on Get Your Guide is well rated: Sedona: PRIVATE 2-Hour Jeep Tour Lil’ Rattler Trail
- Location for ATV or UTV rentals: Sedona ATV and buggy rentals
- Sedona ATV provided us with a turn by turn map to follow with images of the markers to follow specific trails.
- If you have no previous experience off-roading it can be intimidating. It was intimidating for me at times even though I’ve done my fair share of off-roading.
Visit the Palatki Heritage Site
The first trail off-roading in Sedona led us to Palatki Heritage Site, a remarkable place showcasing ancient Sinagua cliff dwellings and pictographs etched into the red rock walls. Built over 800 years ago, these dwellings and intricate rock art offer a glimpse into the region’s vibrant past and the people who once thrived there.
You can also explore this cultural site through guided tours or by accessing it via hiking trails, all while surrounded by Sedona’s breathtaking red rock landscapes.

When we got here, we jumped off the UTV to walk around and explore. That’s the nice thing about off-roading in Sedona, it allows you to get to all kinds of unique locations quickly without having to hike in, leaving you more time to explore once you get there.

Boynton Pass
Boynton Pass, located in the heart of Sedona, is a scenic area renowned for its vibrant red rock formations, towering pinnacles, and lush desert vegetation. It offers stunning views of Sedona’s high mountains and canyons, making it a popular spot for hiking, photography, and off-roading adventures. We moved along to Boynton Pass, where we zoomed through the colorful canyons, red rock pinnacles, and high mountains, immersing ourselves in the breathtaking natural beauty of the area.
