To Get There

Located at 42505 Pacific Coast Highway, Neptunes Net sits about 15 miles north of Malibu’s central hub and just south of Ventura County. Driving along this stretch of the PCH is a treat in itself, with sweeping ocean views and the salty breeze accompanying your journey.

If you’re heading from Los Angeles, it’s approximately a 45-minute to an hour-long drive, depending on traffic. Keep an eye out for the restaurant’s iconic retro sign as you approach—you can’t miss it! Parking is plentiful, with dedicated spots for both cars and motorcycles, a nod to the restaurant’s biker-friendly reputation.

When To Go

Neptunes Net is open year-round, but the experience can vary depending on when you visit:

  • Weekdays: If you prefer a quieter vibe, drop by on a weekday when the crowds are lighter. It’s a great time to savor your meal while enjoying unobstructed ocean views.
  • Weekends: For a livelier scene, visit on a weekend when the outdoor patio buzzes with bikers, surfers, and road-trippers. The energy is infectious, and it’s the perfect setting to people-watch.

Weather-wise, spring and summer are ideal for soaking up the California sunshine, but the mild fall and winter months still offer stunning coastal views and cooler breezes.

Pro tip: If you’re visiting during peak hours or on a weekend, arrive early to snag a good seat and avoid long lines—the restaurant operates on a first-come, first-served basis.

About Neptunes Net

This iconic eatery has been serving up fresh seafood and good vibes since 1958, and its history is as rich as its clam chowder. Originally opened in 1956 as Panorama Pacific, it was purchased and renamed by Paul and Dolly Seay two years later.

Famous for its split personality, the restaurant is divided into two sections:

  1. The “Restaurant Side”: Perfect for those craving a classic seafood platter, clam chowder, or their famous fish & chips. Order your food at the counter and enjoy it on the spacious outdoor patio.
  2. The “Seafood Market”: Here, you can pick out fresh seafood by the pound—from lobster to shrimp—and have it steamed to order. It’s an interactive and fun way to enjoy the catch of the day.

Neptunes Net has also earned a place in Hollywood history, appearing in films like The Fast and the Furious and Point Break. Its old-school charm and prime location make it a hotspot for locals and tourists alike.

When we visited Neptunes Net, it was a perfect California day. The sun was shining, the waves were crashing in the distance, and the scent of saltwater and fried seafood filled the air. We opted for the classic fish & chips and a seafood sampler, which didn’t disappoint. The fish was golden and crispy, the fries were perfectly seasoned, and the calamari melted in our mouths.

One of the highlights was sitting on the patio, watching motorcycles roll in and surfers pulling their boards from their trucks. The eclectic mix of people added to the restaurant’s charm. There’s a sense of community here—a shared appreciation for good food, the open road, and the beauty of the Pacific.

Practical Tips for Visiting

  • What to Order: Don’t miss the fish & chips or clam chowder. If you’re feeling adventurous, try the steamed lobster or fresh oysters.
  • Bring Cash: While they accept cards, having some cash on hand is always a good idea for quicker transactions, especially during busy times.
  • Seating: The outdoor patio offers the best views, so grab a table there if you can. If it’s windy or chilly, consider bringing a light jacket.
  • Bathrooms: Restrooms are available on-site, but they’re basic—plan accordingly.

This Malibu landmark embodies the essence of California coastal living. So next time you’re driving along the PCH, make a stop at Neptune’s Net—you’ll leave with a happy belly and a sun-kissed glow.
