When To Go

The best time to visit Portland is from late spring to early fall, when the weather is mild, the city’s famous roses are in bloom, and outdoor activities like cycling and hiking are at their peak. Summer also offers lively festivals, bustling farmers’ markets, and perfect conditions for enjoying the city’s craft beer scene.

Base Camp Brews

The real adventure is in the beer. Base Camp Brewing offers a lineup that is as bold and inventive as its decor. You can sample the Nomadic Blood Orange Double IPA, a burst of citrusy delight with a hoppy backbone, or the refreshing and slightly spicy Pilgrimage Saison. For those with a sweet tooth (like me!), the S’more Stout is an absolute treat. With its rich chocolate and marshmallow notes, it’s like a campfire in a glass.

The S'more Stout

Base Camp Brewing’s menu is packed with adventurous flavors beyond their iconic S’more Stout. The Celestial CDL (Czech Dark Lager) offers a smooth, malty profile with hints of caramel and a subtle roasted finish, while the Ripstop Rye Pils provides a crisp and refreshing pilsner experience with a spicy rye twist—perfect after a day outdoors. Hop lovers will enjoy the Ultra Gnar Gnar IPA, a bold West Coast IPA bursting with pine and citrus notes, balanced by a touch of malt sweetness. For something unique, the In-Tents IPL (India Pale Lager) blends the hoppy intensity of an IPA with the clean, refreshing finish of a lager.

To top it off, Base Camp Brewing creatively packages their 22-ounce beers in lightweight aluminum bottles—perfect for taking along on your next outdoor adventure.

Beercycling Through Portland

Our visit to Base Camp Brewing was part of a private cycling tour through Portland led by my good friend Evan, the founder of Beercycling. Evan’s tours combine two of life’s greatest joys—exploring scenic locales and savoring craft beer. We cycled through Portland’s bike-friendly streets, stopping at local breweries, and enjoying the city’s vibrant culture was an experience I’ll never forget.

If you’re intrigued by the idea of Beercycling, I highly recommend checking out Evan’s European tours. I recently joined one of his trips in Belgium, a country renowned for its beer culture. It was incredible to cycle through quaint villages, visit historic breweries, and indulge in world-class beers. You can read more about my experience here: Bikes, Brews & Belgium: 5 Days of Beercycling

Base Camp Brewing is a celebration of the adventurous spirit that defines Portland. Whether you’re a local or a traveler passing through, make sure to add this brewery to your itinerary.

Cheers to adventure, great friends, and even better beer!
