Tulum is a paradise of white sand beaches, boho vibes, and endless adventure. After a quick visit to the Tulum Ruins during a trip to Playa del Carmen last year, my friends and I knew we had to come back for more. After four trips back, here are my best recommendations for making the most of 4 days in Tulum—sprinkled with some personal highlights from our unforgettable adventures!
Where To Stay
Casa Malca
$$$ – Casa Malca is rumored to have once been a private mansion belonging to Pablo Escobar. It’s now a luxurious boutique hotel featuring stunning art installations, lush jungle surroundings, and beachfront elegance.
Cabanas Tulum
$$ – Cabanas Tulum is a beachfront boutique hotel in a great location with two incredible restaurants, Frescos and Ziggy’s.
Zamas Hotel
$ Zamas has low key bungalows with not a lot of flair, but comfortable, affordable and a great location.
To Get There
Arrive at Cancun International Airport and book a transfer to Tulum. We used Cancun Limo Service, which offers van rentals (or limos) for groups—perfect for the 1.5-hour drive. I’ve used them several times and they’re always prompt and have great drivers.
Day One Itinerary
Ziggy’s Beach Club
If you arrive early enough, check into your hotel and head to Ziggy’s Beach Club for lunch.
Don’t miss the chilaquiles “divorciados” at Ziggy’s (half red, half green sauce is the way to go).

Sunset at Mateos
Get sunset drinks at Mateo’s Mexican Grill. Their rooftop deck offers stunning views of the jungle and incredible 2-for-1 cocktails and usually have a DJ playing. We loved the strawberry mint mojitos!

Dinner at Posada Margherita
Dine at Posada margherita, a rustic seaside spot known for its fresh Italian-inspired dishes. The setting—boho chic meets the beach—is as stunning as the food.
Pro Tip: Bring cash, as many spots in Tulum are cash-only or prefer it.
Day Two Itinerary
Tulum Ruins
Visit the iconic Tulum Ruins, perched on a cliff overlooking the Caribbean. The ancient stone structures once sheltered the Mayans and now provide a habitat for the large, scaly iguanas that roam the site. This combination of historical wonder and natural beauty makes Tulum a must-visit destination for any traveler.
If you want to tour the site to learn more about it’s history, or combine your tour with cenotes or snorkeling, here are some well-rated tours I found on Get Your Guide:
- Tulum: Archaeological Site Guided Walking Tour
- Tulum Ruins: Archaeological Zone Guided Walking Tour
- From Quintana Roo: Tulum Ruins, Sea Turtles & Cenote Day Tour
- From Riviera Maya: Tulum Ruins and 2 Cenotes Half-Day Tour

Tulum Pueblo
Stroll through Tulum Pueblo for shopping and street-side tacos. There are plenty of artisanal shops selling handcrafted jewelry, flowing linens, and unique souvenirs.
Dinner at Casa Jaguar
Casa Jaguar is a restaurant with a moody ambiance, a flair for mixology, and an upscale latin vibe that can’t be beat. We had a New Years’ dinner here one year and had an absolute blast!

Drinks at Todos Santos
You won’t have to go far for drinks. Todos Santos is the cocktails bar at Casa Jaguar. Have a nightcap at moody and stylish bar with inventive mezcal cocktails and live performances. The elegant jungle atmosphere is perfect for a night out.

Day Three Itinerary
Go on a Sian Ka’an Lazy river adventure
Embark on the Sian Ka’an Lazy River Adventure, a guided tour through two fresh water lagoons connected by a Mayan canal. Floating through the crystal-clear water surrounded by lush mangroves is serene and unforgettable. Bonus is we also got to ride in a speed boat and also see some amazing Mayan Ruins.
Here are some more options below from Get Your Guide.
- From Riviera Maya: Mayan Ruins & Sian Kaan Reserve Tour – 6 hours
- From Tulum: Sian Kaan Reserve and Muyil Mayan Ruins Tour – 4.5 hours
- From Riviera Maya: Sian Ka’an Half Day Tour w/ Lunch – 6 hours
- From Tulum: Sian Kaan Boat Trip Adventure with Lunch (10 hours)

Visit Cenote Taak Bi Ha
If you have time, visit Cenote Taak Bi Ha, a stunning underground cenote with turquoise water and dramatic stalactites. Bring snorkeling gear and enjoy an otherworldly swim.

Dinner at Hartwood
Dinner at Hartwood, one of Tulum’s most celebrated restaurants. This open-air eatery is known for its ever-changing menu of fresh, local ingredients. Make reservations in advance to secure your spot.

Gitano Dance Party
Dance the night away at Gitano, a Friday night favorite with a jungle dance floor, string lights, and disco beats under the stars.

Day Four Itinerary
Beach & Relaxation
Spend your last morning enjoying Tulum’s breathtaking beaches. The soft sand and turquoise waters in front of Cabañas Tulum are postcard-perfect. Pair with a fresh margarita for peak relaxation.

Tulum is a place that leaves you wanting more, from its turquoise waters to its vibrant nightlife and serene adventures. Whether you’re floating in a lazy river, dancing under string lights, or savoring fresh ceviche by the sea, this beach town is a destination that truly has it all.

It’s been a superb place to visit. The beautiful beaches and delicious food make the place more attractive for tourist to visit. It’s always one of my favorite destinations I have visited. Last year I was there with my friends and we enjoyed every moment of it.Thank our transportation agency "North America Shuttle Transfers" for making everything possible as they guided us to see the beauty of Tulum as we have a short time to spare there.
So gorgeous, right? It has become one of my top 5 destinations. I want to go back next year again. 🙂
Nice
Thanks!
