The Amalfi Coast is a picturesque stretch of coastline in southern Italy, famous for its dramatic cliffs, charming beach clubs, and an abundance of good restaurants. With its steep, winding streets and endless stairs, it’s a place where every turn offers a new view of the sparkling Mediterranean Sea below. Whether you’re lounging on one of its pebbled beaches, dining on fresh seafood, or simply soaking in the vibrant colors of the cliffside towns, the Amalfi Coast is the perfect blend of natural beauty and Italian charm. Here’s a 3-day itinerary that will allow you to experience the best of this beautiful region.

Stay at a B&B in Positano

Positano is dotted with charming Italian B&Bs halfway up the hill, offering a truly authentic experience. The town’s narrow streets are lined with boutique shops and cozy cafes. Our hotel was only accessible on foot, requiring a trek up or down an old concrete staircase—definitely a workout! This region is stunning, but be prepared for lots of walking and stairs. It’s best suited for those who are in good shape and ready for a bit of a physical challenge.

Day One Itinerary: Positano

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at a café with a sea view, La Zagara is a good pick.

Sun Bathe on Spiaggia del Fornillo or Spiaggia Grande

We stayed near Spiaggia del Fornillo, the smaller beach in Positano. It’s less crowded and, in my opinion, even more beautiful than the main beach, Spiaggia Grande. The beach is lined with casual restaurants where you can grab a bite or a beer between swimming and sunbathing. Just a heads-up: the beaches are pretty rocky, so water shoes might come in handy.

If you’re in good shape, getting around Positano is pretty easy on foot. Walking is actually a great way to explore the town, with its cobblestone streets and stunning ocean views at every turn.

Dine at Ristorante Max

Ristorante Max in Positano is a romantic upscale restaurant with a beautiful garden courtyard to dine in.

Party at Music on the Rocks

Music on the Rocks is a beachside club tucked inside a cave. It doesn’t really come alive until after midnight, so if you show up before 12:30am, expect to have the place to yourself. Once the crowd rolls in, though, it turns into a great time. We had a blast, but there was definitely a slow start!

Day Two Itinerary: Amalfi & Praiano

Travel to Amalfi

Take a morning ferry or drive to Amalfi. Enjoy breakfast at Pasticceria Pansa, a historic café. Visit the Amalfi Cathedral (Duomo di Amalfi) and explore the town center.

Join the Beach Party at One Fire Beach

We stumbled across this One Fire Beach Club while exploring the coastline. You have to walk down a very long stairway to get here from the main road or take a boat ferry from one of the other beaches. This gem is nestled along the coastline with its bright orange umbrellas overlooking the bright blue sea. It’s a great place to spend the day relaxing in the sunshine, swimming, drinking, and making new friends.

Day Three Itinerary: Capri

Ferry to Capri

Take an early ferry from Positano or Amalfi to Capri.

Take a Boat Tour to the Blue Grotto (Grotta Azzurra)

Capri is a nice island, with the bluest water and rocky landscape. I was much more impressed by mainland Amalfi, and that’s probably because Capri is overrun with tourists and touristy shops and restaurants. If you are short on time I’d skip it. If you do go take a boat ride, it’s a great way to see the island. The water is a beautiful shade of blue and the cliff sides are breathtaking.

Farewell Dinner at Ristorante La Sponda

End your trip to the Amalfi Coast with a memorable dinner at Ristorante La Sponda in Positano, famous for its romantic atmosphere and incredible views.

The Amalfi Coast is gorgeous and there is so much to explore, I can’t wait to return someday when the weather is a little cooler!

If you’re looking for another island getaway in Europe, Croatia is one my favorites! Hvar is particular is such a beautiful island to explore.
